Their plan was tear down old pitt stadium and replace if with new arena for basketball. Also the steelers gave them an amazing deal with 50 50 use of steelers practice facilitiy and support staff and collaborative scheduling on the atadium . That ensured they have no long term commitment for maintenance and capital for football and no need for football practice facility . The stadium is not far from the campus.. this decision was a short term cash flow decision by the university at a differemt tome.
